Matthew D. Rao, CKD

    Born in Orange County, California, a resident of the Atlanta area since 1975. 

    Studied architecture and industrial design at the Georgia Institute of Technology,

    1981-1985, graduated with a B.S. in Industrial Design.

    Practiced as an industrial designer 1985-1988, working for a consulting firm with

    a variety of corporate clients, on projects as diverse as packaging graphics, computer

    interface, toys, medical equipment, and household appliances.

    Began kitchen design career in 1988, working for a local Atlanta firm that

    imported German cabinetry.

    Designer / salesperson at SieMatic Corporation, 1990-1992, top salesperson

    of the year, 1995-1998.

    First published nationally in 1991, with publications including Atlanta, Atlanta Homes

    & Lifestyles, Kitchen Trends, Home and Architectural Trends, HOME, Better Homes

    and Gardens, Kitchen and Bath Ideas, Women's Day Kitchens, Veranda, and others.

    Seven time winner of Kitchen of the Year, Atlanta Homes and Lifestyles Magazine.

    Four time finalist, SubZero Design Contest.

    Certified Kitchen Designer, CKD, since 1999.

    Lifelong cooking afficianado, with interests in travel, art, architecture and photography.
